Inner City eBook Scott Norton Taylor Reviews
I truly enjoyed this book. Good story, well fleshed out characters, and although the 'surprises' weren't actually very surprising, it was a very pleasant, enjoyable read.
The setup and the flow through the first half to three quarters of the book was good. The world building elements were first rate and enjoyable. The writing was competent although it needed a good edit and proofing. My problem with the book happened somewhere beyond the middle when the main character and the love interest begins. It all began to unravel there for me. The love story didn't work for me and the need to go back into the city again struck me as exhausting. I felt I was way ahead of the plot and the author from that point on so the reading became a chore. Still, it was pretty good up to there.
Really liked this, was genuinely rivited. Parallels today's world with media center stage with gov't trying to manipulate the public. Worth the time to read.
The author puts us in a world where people are divided. One part of society lives inside high-tech oppressive domed cities. The rest live outside the cities in a more rustic setting but are free from oppression. This could have been a very predictable story, but the author took care to make it unpredictable and very interesting.
I loved this book. It kept me up a couple of nights reading. It reminded me of present day America where one can never be sure of who is telling the real truth. What I learned from this book is to never take things, people, or ideas at face value. The false will reject questioning, the truth will welcome it.
I don't remember what category this book fell under. Perhaps it was science fiction or fantasy. It seemed perfect for our time. Then I noticed that it was set in the 26th century and what made me optimistic suddenly made me sad. The hope I had for the future evaporated as I saw a world in which the corporate big wigs still ran the world. Sad or not, I still loved the book.
I downloaded this book, not knowing what to expect. But I found it to be a sad indictment of the "fake media" even tho this book was written several years ago. The juxtaposition of the fabricated world, with the Outlocked was somewhat depressing as it wasn't very fictitious.
I recommend reading this book not just for the page-turning adventure but for what it can reveal to the reader about living one's life to the fullest. Do not believe everything you are told.
